If you’ve ever purchased our honey in a Muth jar, you’ve held a piece of beekeeping history in your hands. The distinctive glass jar with its cork stopper has been synonymous with quality honey for well over a century.

Charles Muth and the Birth of an Icon

The Muth jar gets its name from Charles F. Muth, a prominent beekeeper and honey dealer in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the late 1800s, Muth was one of the most respected names in the American honey industry. He operated a large honey business and was known for his commitment to selling only pure, unadulterated honey at a time when honey fraud was rampant.

Around 1890, Muth commissioned the design of a distinctive glass jar specifically for honey. The result was the now-iconic Muth jar with its embossed skep pattern — a design that immediately communicated the purity and quality of the product inside.

A Symbol of Pure Honey

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, honey adulteration was a serious problem. Unscrupulous sellers would mix honey with corn syrup, glucose, or other cheap sweeteners. Charles Muth was an outspoken advocate against this practice, and his jar became a mark of trust. When you bought honey in a Muth jar, you knew you were getting the real thing.

That tradition of trust is something we take seriously at AllredBees. Our honey is pure, raw, and unfiltered — straight from our hives to your jar.

The Cork Stopper

One of the most charming features of the Muth jar is its cork stopper. While most modern honey containers use plastic caps or squeeze tops, the cork gives the Muth jar a timeless, authentic feel. It’s a small detail that connects today’s honey lover to over a century of beekeeping tradition.

Why We Use the Muth Jar

We chose the Muth jar for several of our products because it represents everything we believe in as beekeepers: quality, tradition, and respect for the craft. There’s something special about pouring honey from a jar that has remained essentially unchanged for over 130 years.

Whether you keep it on your kitchen counter or give it as a gift, the Muth jar is a beautiful way to enjoy honey — and a conversation piece that connects you to the rich history of American beekeeping.

You can find our honey in Muth jars in several sizes in our product lineup.
